18-04-2022

April 18 is the International Day of Monuments and Historic Places. This date is marked on the basis of the decision adopted in 1983 by the International Council for the Protection of Monuments and Landmarks of UNESCO. The goal is to draw the attention of the world community to the protection of material and cultural monuments.

Historical monuments - mausoleums, palaces, temples, mosques, cemeteries, bridges, ovdans, domes, minarets, etc. are material relics of our historical past. They have survived the harsh tests of time and have come to this day. The antiquity of the history of each country is measured by the abundance and antiquity of its material and cultural relics.

Azerbaijan also has rare historical architectural monuments- our fortresses such as Gobustan, Gamigaya, Istisu rock carvings, Chiraggala, Oglangala, Javanshir, Gulustan, Alinja, Bugurd, Gelersan-Görersan, Momina Khatin, Yusif ibn Kuseyr, Olcaytu Khudabanda mausoleums, Blue Mosque, Shah Abbas Mosque , we have religious places of worship such as Govharaga Mosque, Juma Mosque, Tazapir Mosque, Hasht Behisht, Shirvanshahlar, Iravan Sardar Palace, Sheki Khan Palace, etc.

April 18 - International Day of Monuments and Historical Places, a virtual exhibition of the same name was prepared by the employees of the National Library. The virtual exhibition displays photos, information about our historical monuments, as well as materials related to the topic.
