State sovereignty is a fundamental principle of national independence, reflecting a state's authority to exercise its rights and responsibilities within its internationally recognized territory. The Constitution provides the legal foundation for safeguarding these principles and ensuring the rule of law.
By a Presidential Decree signed on December 28, 2024, the year 2025 was declared the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the significance of constitutional principles, national independence, and state sovereignty.
Azerbaijan's victory in the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020 marked a major stage in restoring the country's territorial integrity. Following the military operations conducted in Karabakh on September 19–20, 2023, Azerbaijan re-established its sovereignty and constitutional authority throughout its territory.
