On December 7, Member of Parliament, PhD in Political Science, and prominent public-political figure Aydin Mirzazade visited the Azerbaijan National Library. During the meeting, he donated rare and valuable publications to the library. The gifted books, dating from the 19th century and the early 20th century, are considered rare copies and important sources in the history of enlightenment and national thought in Azerbaijan.

One of the books is a textbook titled La Morale à l’École (“Morality at School”) by the French philosopher Jules Payot, published in 1909 by Armand Colin in Paris. It is distinguished by its moral-educational content intended for primary education and is considered one of the classical works contributing to the development of the concept of morality in European school education.

The other valuable book is the second complete edition of Hop-hopname (1914), the famous work by the prominent Azerbaijani literary figure Mirza Alakbar Sabir, published in Baku. This edition is one of the first fundamental collections encompassing Sabir’s satirical legacy. The editor and publisher of the edition was the poet’s wife, Khanum Taghizade, and it was printed at the “Kaspiy” typolithography in the press of Isa bey Ashurbeyov.

During the meeting, Professor Karim Tahirov, Director of the National Library, emphasized the scientific, historical, and cultural significance of both books, noting that these rare publications are an important contribution to the library’s collections. On behalf of the library staff and its readers, he thanked MP and bibliophile Aydin Mirzazade for these valuable gifts. He also highlighted that such donations are of great importance for preserving national memory and passing it on to future generations. The director added that both books will be kept in the National Library’s Rare Books Collection and made accessible to researchers, and in turn presented gifts to the guest.

MP Aydin Mirzazade noted that making these publications available to the public is important for promoting Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage, expressed his gratitude to the library director, and encouraged other bibliophiles to take similar initiatives.
