On August 1, an event was held in the National Library on the occasion of the Day of the Azerbaijani alphabet and the Azerbaijani language. Adiba Ismayilova, deputy director, doctor of philosophy in history, opened the event with an opening speech, greeted the guests, emphasized that as a nation, as a society, we have protected our language and moral values through all kinds of tests of time, and congratulated everyone on the occasion of this remarkable day, when our own language which has deep historical roots was celebrated at the state level, and noted that the alphabet of the Azerbaijani people was changed several times due to certain reasons in different periods of history, and stated that this wonderful day was established according to the Decree of National Leader Heydar Aliyev dated August 9, 2001.

As in all fields, he talked about the great leader Heydar Aliyev's unparalleled services in the development of our mother tongue and raising it to the highest level as the state language, the decrees and orders he regularly signed in connection with the development of the Azerbaijani language, and said that it is the civic duty of each of us to protect this sacred value that determines our existence.

The deputy director said that despite certain obstacles created during the Soviet era, the Azerbaijani language was able maintain its existence, which has unshakable national foundations, Article 21 of the Constitution prepared under the leadership of the national leader of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and adopted on November 12, 1995 stated that the state language should be the Azerbaijani language,  he emphasized that Mr. President Ilham Aliyev always pays great attention and care to our mother language and culture, by his decrees "On the publication of the Azerbaijani National Encyclopedia" and "On the implementation of mass publications in the Azerbaijani language with Latin script", "On the approval of the list of works intended to be printed in the Azerbaijani language with Latin script" the works of prominent representatives of Azerbaijani and world literature were published in mass circulation and donated to the entire library network of the country.

Later, a video showing the speech of our National Leader Heydar Aliyev about our language was presented.

Shahla Naghiyeva, head of the library's collection and information resources protection department, stated that at the beginning of the 20th century, the issue of transition to the Latin alphabet was brought up many times by Azerbaijani intellectuals, and many works were written about the mysteriousness of our language.

Zakaria Gurbanov, a special care reader of the National Library, expressed his gratitude to the library for organizing the event on behalf of the "Nur Ocagi" Literary Association, presented the book "Light piercing the darkness" to the library and asked for its electronicization, and recited his poem about the purity of our language.

Fidan Mammadzade, a student of secondary school No. 23, sang "My Mother Tongue" by Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh, National Library employee Tarlana Aliyeva recited her poem "My Mother Tongue", Fidan Hasanova recited Ogtay Rza's poem "Azerbaijani Turkish is my language ".

In the end, deputy director Adiba Ismayilova recited the poem "Azerbaijan" by Samad Vurgun, one of the most beautiful examples of poetry written in our simple and harmonious mother tongue, and introduced the exhibition "August 1 - Day of the Azerbaijani Language and Alphabet".

Also, on the occasion of the Day of Azerbaijani Literature and the Azerbaijani Language, the staff of the National Library prepared and presented to the public a virtual exhibition called "August 1 - Day of the Azerbaijani Alphabet and the Azerbaijani Language".
