On January 21, at the National Library, a presentation ceremony was held for the collection of books by Academician Ismayil Hajiyev, as well as for the traditional and electronic book exhibitions titled “Academician Ismayil Hajiyev.”
The event began with a welcome from Professor Karim Tahirov, Director of the National Library, who opened the ceremony and led a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs of January 20 – the national day of mourning in Azerbaijan – who gave their lives for independence.
Speaking about Ismayil Hajiyev’s multifaceted activities, Professor Tahirov noted that the researcher and scholar, author of numerous scientific works and chronicler of the history of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, had donated over 170 books to the National Library. This significantly enriched the Library’s collection and ensured the preservation and study of his works, which constitute a valuable contribution to historical science for future generations. He also highlighted Hajiyev’s contributions to training dozens of historians, pointing out that most of the attendees in the hall were his students and protégés.
Academic Isa Habibbeyli, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (AMEA), noted that this was the first book presentation of Ismayil Hajiyev held at the National Library. He emphasized that the scholar’s works and articles reflect the main line of Azerbaijani national-state ideology and that his historiographical approach presents historical facts and events analytically and chronologically. Habibbeyli particularly highlighted Hajiyev’s research on National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s activities in Nakhchivan, noting that these works have become highly valuable historical sources. He also stressed that Hajiyev’s studies contribute documents and archival materials to the scientific community and align with state policies and scholarly requirements, praising Hajiyev’s objective approach to historical figures.
Academic Naila Valikhanli, Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, emphasized that there is no period of history from ancient times to the present that Hajiyev has not studied analytically, thoroughly, and comparatively, using rich sources with meticulous precision. She noted that all of Hajiyev’s research constitutes a significant contribution to historical science.
