23-04-2023

April 23 is celebrated as "World Book and Copyright Day". "World Book and Copyright Day" was proclaimed at the 28th session of UNESCO on November 15, 1995 in Paris. This date is a symbolic date in world literature. It is the day that a number of notable authors died, such as William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso dela Vega. That date was held in Paris in 1995 to pay tribute to books and authors worldwide, to encourage everyone to acquire books, the most beautiful invention for sharing ideas across the boundaries of space and time, as well as the main force for the eradication of poverty and the establishment of peace. It was the natural choice of the UNESCO General Conference.
The celebration of World Book and Copyright Day promotes the enjoyment of books and reading. Every year on April 23, events are held around the world to recognize the magical power of the book as a link between past and future, a bridge between generations and cultures.
This significant date has been celebrated in the Republic of Azerbaijan since 1997.
On this occasion, the staff of the National Library prepared a virtual exhibition called "April 23 - World Book and Copyright Day". The virtual exhibition displays photos, books and periodical articles on the subject.
