At the National Library, a virtual and traditional book exhibition titled “Library Science Scholar Elchin Ahmadov” has been presented to users on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the prominent library scientist, educator, PhD in Pedagogy, Head of the Library Science Department of the Information and Document Management Faculty of Baku State University, Associate Professor Elchin Ahmadov.

The exhibitions display an official document on his awarding of the “100th Anniversary of Baku State University (1919–2019) Jubilee Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan” for his high achievements in the development of science and education and his active participation in the socio-cultural development of the university, as well as his monographs on theoretical and practical issues of library science and information sciences, textbooks and teaching aids, articles published in periodicals, numerous fundamental scientific studies, conference materials, books where he served as reviewer and editor, and literature about his scientific activity in Azerbaijani and foreign languages.

Elchin Yusif oglu Ahmadov was born on April 15, 1961, in the village of Dere, Basarkechar district of Western Azerbaijan. In 1983–1988, he studied at the Library Science Faculty of Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University). In 1989, he completed advanced training at the All-Union Institute for Advanced Training of Cultural Workers in Moscow. In 1994–1998, he continued his postgraduate studies. In 2000, he defended his dissertation titled “Organization of Library Services for Children in Azerbaijan (Historical Development, Current State and Prospects, 1901–1995)” and received the degree of PhD in Pedagogy. He completed his doctoral dissertation titled “Library and Information Services for Children and Youth in the Years of Independence” and published a monograph under the same title.

He began his professional career in 1979, working as head of the village library in Dere, Basarkechar district, and later served as chief methodologist and head of the methodological department at the F. Kocharli Republican Children’s Library from 1988 to 1993.

Since 1994, he has been engaged in teaching at Baku State University and currently serves as Head of the Library Science Department of the Information and Document Management Faculty and Associate Professor.

His scientific activity is focused on the general methodology of library science and the theoretical and practical problems of library and information sciences. His main research areas include the organization of library services for children and youth in Azerbaijan, as well as the scientific, philosophical, and pedagogical foundations of library science. He has contributed to the development of modern approaches by linking the historical development of library services with contemporary requirements.

He teaches courses such as “Introduction to Library Science and Information Sciences,” “World National Libraries,” and “Legal Support of Library Work in Azerbaijan.” He also supervises doctoral, dissertation, and master’s students, playing an important role in training young researchers. His scientific legacy includes works such as “Legal Framework of Library and Information Work in Azerbaijan: Textbook” (2012), “Library and Information Provision for Children and Youth: Monograph” (2016), “World National Libraries: Teaching Aid for Master’s Students” (2008), “Multiculturalism in Library and Information Activities: Monograph” (2019), and more than 100 scientific articles. His works have been published in the journal “Library Science and Information” as well as in high-index international scientific journals and specialized publications.

For his scientific and pedagogical activity, Elchin Ahmadov has been awarded honorary certificates by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Baku State University.
