03-08-2023

"Day of National Cinema " is celebrated in Azerbaijan on August 2.

The history of the creation of Azerbaijani cinema coincides with the last years of the 19th century. On August 2, 1898, photographer Alexander Michon had arranged independent demonstrations of plots "Oil fountain fire in Bibi Heybat”, "Ceremony of seeing-of of His Majesty Emir of Bukhara", The Caucasian dance" newsreel -documentary and "You are caught" feature plots. That day is considered the day of the creation of the national cinema of Azerbaijan.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a number of foreign film companies opened branches in Baku and engaged in film production.

Both during the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and after the establishment of Soviet power in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani film industry experienced its own period of development.

After gaining independence, National leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to this field as well as to other cultural fields. Thus, according to the Decree of National leader Heydar Aliyev dated December 18, 2000, August 2 is celebrated as the professional holiday of cinema workers - "Day of National Cinema ".

On the occasion of Azerbaijan Cinema Day, a virtual exhibition called "Day of National Cinema " was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan.

In the virtual exhibition, official documents reflecting the history of Azerbaijani cinema, opinions of prominent people about our cinema history, photos, books and articles reflecting the history of Azerbaijani cinema are displayed.
