Azerbaijan National Library participated in the XXIV General Meeting of the Eurasian Library Assembly Members online

Director General of the Russian State Library Vadim Valerievich Duda welcomed the participants of the video conference.

The videoconference was attended by the President of the Eurasian Library Assembly (ELA), Deputy Director General of the Russian State Library Alexander Ivanovich Visliy, Director of Azerbaijan National Library prof Karim Tahirov, Director General of the Eurasian Library Assembly Maria Vladimirovna Neryueva, directors of the national libraries of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Armenia.

At the online conference was discussed draft recommendations for defining a unified approach to the submission of electronic versions of printed materials published in the CIS member states to the National Libraries besides mandatory copies.

Speaking on this issue, Director of the Azerbaijan National Library, Professor Karim Tahirov, first of all, noted that the Azerbaijanis celebrate a great victory these days. “Under the leadership of our Commander-in-Chief, Mr.President Ilham Aliyev, glorious Azerbaijani Army liberated the ancient Azerbaijani lands occupied by Armenia for 30 years” he added. Karim Tahirov also mentioned that Mr.President visited Fuzuli, Jabrayil and Aghdam regions liberated from Armenian occupation. He stressed that all buildings, devices and infrastructure facilities in the liberated territories, including 975 libraries operating in those territories and more than 4.6 million copies of valuable books, were destroyed and burned.

Director K.Tahirov said that in accordance with the Order signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2019, the submission of electronic forms of mandatory copies of printed works to the National Library was adopted by law. Director also proposed to reduce the period of submission of electronic versions to libraries from 30 to 10 days.

After that, Director of the National Library of Armenia, who was concerned about Kerim Tahirov's words, expressed his protest against the politicization of the event and asked the chairman not to allow such cases.

Then, the projects implemented by the libraries of the ELA countries in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the participation of experts from the CIS countries in the 37th World Congress of the International Children's Book Council were discussed at the event.

Then, for the next 4 years, President and Vice-president of Eurasian Library Assembly were elected.

At the end of the online conference, at the suggestion of the Director of the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi, it was decided to hold the next XXV General Assembly of the Eurasian Library Assembly in April 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
