29-03-2023

105 years have passed since the Armenian genocide against our people in 1918. The March genocides are one of the bloodiest tragedies not only in the history of Azerbaijan, but also in human history due to their cruelty and scale. Along with tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis, thousands of people belonging to Lezgi, Jews, Russians, Avars and Talysh nationalities were put through swords and bayonets and burned alive. They turned a large part of Baku into ruins. Genocide of Azerbaijanis was carried out with special cruelty not only in Baku, but also in Shamakhi, Guba districts, Karabakh, Zangezur, Nakhchivan, Lankaran, Ganja and other regions.

National leader Heydar Aliyev gave a legal and political assessment of the March genocide. On March 26, 1998, the great leader signed the Decree "On the Genocide of Azerbaijanis". From that day, March 31 is celebrated as Genocide Day of Azerbaijanis.

The virtual exhibition "We have not forgotten the March 31 genocide" was prepared by the employees of the Azerbaijan National Library of the Ministry of Culture. In the virtual exhibition, books and periodical press materials and photographs are displayed on the subject.
