June 26 is the International Day against Drug Addiction and Drug Trafficking. In modern times, drug addiction, which is a great problem for humanity is widespread all over the world. In order to constantly keep the problems related to drug addiction under the control of the public, the UN declared June 26 as the International Day against Drug Addiction and Drug Business.

Illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and drug addiction is one of the main problems that concern the world today. The extent of the damage caused by this problem is very great, and it leads to the degradation of the personality of the drug user, as well as to his committing various crimes, as well as to the decrease of the material- technical and intellectual potential of the society, the deterioration of the gene pool, and many negative situations.

At the same time, illegal drug trafficking, which leads to an increase in crime, is one of the most serious threats to international security, being a source of funding for terrorism. In this regard, the countries of the world are further improving the methods of combating drug addiction and illegal drug trafficking, as well as increasing their efforts in the field of application of the appropriate control system at the international level.

One of the main activities of the state of Azerbaijan has been the creation of a legislative base regulating legal issues in the field of the fight against drug addiction and illegal drug trafficking in the country and adapting this base to changing conditions and requirements.

June 26 - on the occasion of the International Day of Fight against Drug Addiction and Drug Business, a virtual exhibition called "The fight against drug addiction is a guarantee of a healthy life" was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F.Akhundzade.
