As is known, President Ilham Aliyev has declared 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in order to preserve Azerbaijan’s centuries-old traditions of urban planning and architectural culture, as well as to promote and expand modern approaches that respond to new challenges in this field in the country. This decree reflects the high value the Azerbaijani state places on its rich historical and cultural heritage and its development strategy focused on the future. The initiative is of great historical importance for the country in terms of ensuring both modern development and the preservation of national cultural values.

In connection with this year, the methodological guide prepared by the National Library aims to support the planning of events in libraries related to the declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” the systematization of ideas, and the presentation of new formats. The goal is not only to present topics of architecture and urban planning, but also to convey their historical, cultural, and social significance to users, especially young people.

The guide includes the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Azerbaijan on declaring 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” several official documents, an introductory article on this historical event, and methodological recommendations for implementing various mass events in libraries for its wide promotion.
