A virtual exhibition called "Needlework in Shusha" was presented to users online in the National Library

07-06-2022

SHUSHA is the historical and cultural center of Azerbaijan, the main crown of Karabakh and our ancient city that has military and strategic significance.

In 1977, on the initiative of the National Leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev, a decision was made to "declare the historical part of the city of Shusha as a historical-architectural reserve". As a result of that decision, significant steps have been taken in the direction of protection of monuments and perpetuation of the memories of outstanding cultural and artistic figures in Shusha.

In connection with the announcement of 2022 as the "Year of Shusha" by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev a virtual exhibition called " Needlework in Shusha " was prepared by the staff of the National Library. Shusha is rich in historical and cultural monuments, as well as handicrafts that support the existence of our people. The history of artistic embroidery, which is a type of decorative and applied art, is very old.

At the same time, neeedlework with its rich patterns and colors, has created a lot of similarities with other areas of our decorative-applied art (carpet, metal, ceramics, etc.) and occupies a unique place in our national art history.

The figurative methods of the embroidery art of Azerbaijan are very rich and colorful. It includes various types of threads, fabric, beads, and other art materials.

In the presented virtual exhibition, examples of XIX century needlework, their classification, visual images and a brief history were reflected in Shusha, the cultural center of Azerbaijan.
