The General Directorate of Libraries and Publications under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye is organizing the Turkic World Publishing Congress with the aim of strengthening institutional cooperation in the publishing sector across the Turkic world, contributing to the preservation of a shared cultural memory, and ensuring the sustainable development of information production and exchange. The congress is being held on March 27–29, 2026, in Ankara, which has been declared the “Tourism Capital of the Turkic World” for 2026.
The opening ceremony of the congress was attended by Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gökhan Yazgı. Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the publishing field across the Turkic world. It was noted that publishing activities based on shared history, language, and cultural heritage contribute to the development of relations and the strengthening of mutual understanding among countries.
Within the framework of the event, commission meetings have been organized on topics such as publishing policies, legal deposit and standards, copyright and intellectual property rights, translation support, content development, and issues related to a common alphabet and language.
Representatives of national libraries from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and other Turkic-speaking countries are also participating in the event. The participation of Turkic national libraries in this meeting, which aims to strengthen the exchange of information and experience among libraries of the Turkic world, is of great importance.
The Azerbaijan National Library is represented by Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs and Library-Information Services, PhD in History Adiba Ismayilova. She delivered a presentation titled “Shared Heritage, Shared Future: National Libraries of Turkic States.” In her speech, she spoke about the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic world formed over millennia, the key responsibilities of national libraries in preserving and transmitting this heritage to future generations, the recent expansion of cooperation among libraries of Turkic-speaking countries, and the activities of the Union of National Libraries of the Turkic World in this direction.
At the end of her speech, she noted that strengthening cooperation among national libraries of Turkic-speaking states will further reinforce their shared identity and enable the transfer of a richer heritage to future generations. The stronger this cooperation, the stronger the unity and cultural richness of the Turkic world will be.
As part of the congress, commission meetings discussing collaborations that will further develop the publishing ecosystem of the Turkic world will continue until Sunday, March 29, 2026.
