The Azerbaijan National Library named after M.F. Akhundov has developed and made available to users an electronic database entitled “Uzeyir Hajibeyli – A Leading Figure of Azerbaijani Music” as part of the celebrations of National Music Day on September 18 and the 18th Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival.
In accordance with Decree No. 385 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated September 18, 1995, “On the Celebration of Uzeyir Music Day”, September 18 is annually celebrated in Azerbaijan as Uzeyir Music Day. Since 2009, the Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival has been organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Traditionally beginning on the composer's birthday, the festival features concerts, theatrical performances, scientific conferences, masterclasses, and other cultural and educational activities.
Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of Azerbaijani professional music, holds a distinguished place in the country's cultural history as a composer, musicologist, publicist, and educator. His multifaceted creative achievements marked a new stage in the development of Azerbaijani musical culture and contributed significantly to the integration of national musical traditions with professional composition.
The electronic database aims to preserve, systematize, and promote Uzeyir Hajibeyli's musical, scholarly, and journalistic heritage, making valuable resources accessible to researchers, musicologists, educators, library specialists, and the general public.
The database includes the following sections: “Home”, “Official Documents”, “The Genius Who Embodied the Spirit of Azerbaijan”, “Key Dates in His Life and Career”, “Prominent Figures on Uzeyir Hajibeyli”, “Commemoration of His Legacy”, “Works”, “About Him”, “Awards”, “Filmography”, “Photo Gallery”, and “Video Gallery”.
These sections contain official documents, presidential decrees and orders related to the composer's legacy, a chronological overview of his life and career, reflections by prominent figures, and information about institutions, monuments, museums, and other memorial sites established in his honour.
The “Works” section presents his musical compositions by genre, including operas, operettas, musical comedies, orchestral, choral, vocal, and instrumental works. The database also features information about his scholarly and journalistic publications, honorary titles, state awards, and contributions to Azerbaijani cultural life.
The photo and video galleries provide visual and audiovisual materials documenting different periods of the composer's life, his family and colleagues, creative activities, and cultural events, along with documentary films dedicated to his achievements.
By bringing together diverse historical, scholarly, bibliographic, and multimedia materials, the electronic database serves as a valuable resource for studying Uzeyir Hajibeyli's legacy. It also contributes to the preservation and promotion of Azerbaijan's national musical heritage and supports the development of modern digital library services.
