The virtual exhibition "Khurshidbanu Natavan" has been presented to users online in the National Library

2022 marks the 190th anniversary of the birth of Khurshidbanu Natavan, an outstanding figure of Azerbaijani artistic thought.

The last heiress of the Karabakh Khanate, Khan Gizi Natavan, harmoniously reconciled her literary creativity, which took its source from the beauty of the native nature, with charitable activities, which became an example of love for the people, and worked hard for the improvement of the city of Shusha and the vitality of its cultural life and was known for her humane nature and nobility and was loved as an embodiment of sacrifice and mercy.

Khurshidbanu Natavan is one of the masters of words who occupy a remarkable place in the history of Azerbaijani literature. The artist, who is deeply familiar with different types of art, wrote and created faithfully to the Eastern poetic traditions, called for spiritual purity and instilled a sense of love and faith in the truth, and left behind a rich legacy of elegant lyricism and bright artistic colors. The literary assembly headed by her gathered around her the leading intellectuals of the time and had a strong influence on the development of the Karabakh literary environment.

Khurshidbanu was famous as a lyrical poet and artist in the history of Azerbaijani culture. Natavan, who knew Arabic and Persian languages perfectly, read the works of great classics such as Nizami, Fuzuli and Navai and benefited from their creativity. Natavan started her creativity with traditional Eastern themes and poems. In her ghazals "Rose", "Carnation", etc., love and the beauty of nature are glorified. She was famous not only for her poems, but also for her kindness. Along with helping the poor and destitute, Natavan made waterway to Shusha. The spring was famous as "Khan's daughter spring".

Based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the celebration of the 190th anniversary of Khurshidbanu Natavan and the action plan of the Ministry of Culture, the staff of the National Library prepared a virtual exhibition called "Khurshidbanu Natavan". Official documents, works authored by Khurshidbanu Natavan, photos, books and articles written about Khurshidbanu Natavan are displayed in the virtual exhibition.
