The virtual exhibition "October 18 – Day of Restoration of Independence " was presented to users online in the National Library.

October 18 is celebrated as the Day of Restoration of State Independence in Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani people regained their state independence for the second time with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. On October 18, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the Constitutional Act on State Independence, and on December 30, the Constitutional Act was approved through a national vote and a referendum.

This act created a legal basis for ensuring the state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, our country proclaimed its state independence to the whole world, laws on the state flag, anthem and emblem of Azerbaijan were adopted. All countries of the world recognized the state independence of our republic, Azerbaijan joined the United Nations and became a member of major international organizations.

By the "Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Independence Day" dated October 15, 2021 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, October 18 was declared the Day of Restoration of Independence.

The restoration of our state independence has created an opportunity for us to unite closely around the ideology of Azerbaijanism and become a subject of international law and build a democratic, legal and secular state.

There is no doubt that Azerbaijan will further strengthen its independence, future generations will be engaged in creation in peaceful conditions, and our republic will become one of the most powerful countries in the world.

On the occasion of the Day of Restoration of State Independence, a virtual exhibition called "October 18 - Day of Restoration of Independence" was prepared by the employees of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade.In the virtual exhibition, photos, books and articles published in periodicals on the history of our country's independence, education system, development path, foreign policy, etc. are displayed.
