At the National Library, a virtual and traditional book exhibition titled “Academician Bekir Nabiyev – 95” has been presented to users on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the birth of literary scholar, Doctor of Philology, professor, honored scientist, State Prize laureate, academician Bekir Nabiyev.
The exhibitions display official documents, works by academician Bekir Nabiyev, books for which he served as compiler, editor, reviewer, or advisor, as well as forewords he wrote. Also exhibited are literature and articles in Azerbaijani and foreign languages about the distinguished scholar’s personality, creativity, and scientific legacy.

Bekir Ahmad oglu Nabiyev was born on August 21, 1930, in the village of Üçqovaq, Aghdash district, into an intellectual family. He studied at Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University), learning from great masters such as Mammad Arif, Ali Sultanli, Mir Jalal, Jafar Khandan, Mammad Jafar, Hamid Arasly, Abbas Zamanov, and Feyzulla Gasimzadeh.
In 1960, he defended his PhD thesis on “The Life and Works of Firidun bey Kocharli,” and in 1970, he defended his doctoral dissertation on “The Great Patriotic War and Azerbaijani Literature.”
His literary activity began with the review titled “Drop by Drop Makes a Lake”, published in the November 4, 1951 issue of the Literature Newspaper.
Academician Nabiyev’s books, such as “Outstanding Critic and Literary Scholar” (1963), “A Pen Turned into a Bayonet” (1970), “Literary Thoughts” (1971), “Criticism and Literary Process” (1976), “The Great Patriotic War and Azerbaijani Literature” (1977), “The Triumph of Kamal” (1981), “When Words Come from the Heart” (1984), “The Novel and the Contemporary Hero” (1987), “Let’s Start with Ourselves” (1990), “The Exiled Poet” (1995), “On Difficult Roads” (2000), “The Poet of Independence” (2001), “Let No Autumn Touch” (2006), and others reflect the phases of Azerbaijani literary criticism and theoretical thought over a half-century (1960–2010).
Academician Bekir Nabiyev established a scientific school in Azerbaijani literary studies and laid the foundation for the distinguished “Bekir Nabiyev School” in Azerbaijani philology.
His extensive contributions have always been highly valued by the Azerbaijani state. He was awarded numerous honors, including the “Shohrat” (Glory) and “Istiglal” (Independence) Orders, the Honorary Diploma of the President of Azerbaijan, and the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
