27-05-2022

On May 27, 1992, the parliament adopted the Law "On the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan". According to the law, in 1919 "Azerbaijan March" composed by the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov and poet Ahmad Javad was approved as the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Along with other attributes of statehood, certain steps were taken and decisions were made in the field of creation of our national anthem by the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Although the draft of the national anthem of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan was prepared in 1919-1920, the historical and political events of that period did not allow its adoption at the legislative level. The origin of the anthem as a symbol of statehood and independence is ancient in the history of Turkic peoples, including the statehood of Azerbaijan. The great leader Heydar Aliyev said about the national anthem of independent Azerbaijan: "Azerbaijan has a beautiful anthem... Its author is our great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov. The words of our national anthem were written by our great poet Ahmad Javad. Its music is also very beautiful; its words are also very meaningful and beautiful." The national anthem is the main attribute of our statehood and a sacred symbol of our national unity - our Azerbaijaniness.

The national anthem, as a sacred symbol, symbol and attribute of independence expressed in music and words, is always sung and listened to on national and state holidays, historical days, official ceremonies, international events, educational institutions and other occasions determined by existing legislation, with great enthusiasm and national pride.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, a virtual exhibition of the same name was prepared by the employees of the Azerbaijan National Library named after M.F. Akhundzade. The virtual exhibition features official documents, photos, books on state symbols, as well as articles published in periodicals about the national anthem of Azerbaijan.
