A book corner about Azerbaijan has been opened at the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of Bulgaria in Sofia

The opening ceremony of a book corner on Azerbaijan was held at the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of Bulgaria in Sofia on October 14. The ceremony was attended by Director of the Azerbaijan National Library, Professor Karim Tahirov, Director of the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of Bulgaria Krasimira Alexandrova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov and other representatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Azerbaijan National Library Karim Tahirov said that he was pleased to visit the National Library of Bulgaria. He noted that more than 100 books on the history, culture, literature and art of Azerbaijan, as well as books about Karabakh, were sent to the National Library of Bulgaria by the National Library of Azerbaijan for display at the book corner. “Azerbaijan National Library attaches special importance to international book exchange with foreign countries” said K. Tahirov. He stressed the importance of increasing the number of books sent to the National Library of Bulgaria in the future.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Huseyn Huseynov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria. “The establishment of a book corner on Azerbaijan at the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of Bulgaria is a commendable step” he said. Mr. Ambassador thanked the management of both libraries.

During the opening ceremony a Memorandum of Understanding on mutual cooperation was signed between the Azerbaijan National Library named after M. F. Akhundov and the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of Bulgaria. “Signing of a memorandum on cooperation between the national libraries of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria is a very important event” said Huseyn Huseynov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria.

Director Karim Tahirov presented a book titled “Nizami Ganjavi. Bibliography” and a CD album “Lyrics by Nizami” to Krasimira Aleksandrova, Director of the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library of Bulgaria.

Then Director Karim Tahirov got acquainted with the National Library of Bulgaria. He was given detailed information about the electronic capabilities of the library, best practices, as well as services provided to users.

Karim Tahirov also attended an event dedicated to the centenary of the establishment of the “Bulgarian Red Cross Youth” organization.
