The Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of the Islamic Republic of Iran visited the National Library of Azerbaijan

On the 7th of October, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of the Islamic Republic of Iran Yaser Ahmadvand visited the National Library.

Director of the library prof. Karim Tahirov welcomed the guests and expressed his satisfaction with their presence in the National Library of Azerbaijan, by talking about mutual cooperation between the national libraries of both countries he said that a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in online form between the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the National Library of Azerbaijan last year.

The director gave general information about the library to the guests and said that the National Library of Azerbaijan is the richest library in the country. He gave extensive information to the guests about the fund of the National Library, the number of readers, the automation processes implemented in the library, the online services of the National Library during the pandemic, as well as international projects. He said that the National Library of Azerbaijan cooperates with about 60 libraries of the world.

In the meeting, prof. Karim Tahirov noted that during the pandemic, the National Library provided online services to readers and over this period, the library served nearly 7 million readers through e-books. Our readers from Iran have a special place among these readers. K. Tahirov said that he brought to the attention of the guest that there is a great need to strengthen the international book exchange between the National Libraries of Azerbaijan and Iran. Yaser Ahmadvand, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of the Islamic Republic of Iran, made a speech and said that it was his first time in Azerbaijan and that the people were very hospitable and pleasant.

He mentioned  that the publishing business in Iran is very developed, there are about 100,000 small and large libraries and their numerous funds. In the end, the deputy minister invited the National Library of Azerbaijan to the Tehran International Book Fair that will be held next year.

At the end of the meeting, books were given to guests and a commemorative photo was taken.
