During his business visit to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, Director of the Azerbaijan National Library, Professor Karim Tahirov, visited the National Library of Foreign Literature and the Parliamentary Library of Hungary.
In the first part of the visit, Karim Tahirov was received at the National Library of Foreign Literature by its director, Istvan Horvath, who provided detailed information about the institution’s activities, structure, and rich collections. It was noted that the library is an important cultural center for collecting and presenting literature published in different languages and plays a special role in the development of international literary relations. The library currently holds more than 400,000 items in various world languages.
Professor Karim Tahirov became closely acquainted with different departments of the library. In the music section, rare sheet music, musical publications, and audio archives were presented. He also reviewed materials related to Azerbaijani music, including sheet music and recordings. The director noted that new musical and notated materials will soon be sent to the library. In the reading hall, information was provided about modern facilities, comfortable conditions, and access to electronic resources. The foreign literature section showcased a rich collection of classical and contemporary world literature. Other departments and services of the library were also presented.
Later, Professor Karim Tahirov visited the Parliamentary Library of Hungary. It was noted that the library operates within the building of the Hungarian Parliament and is one of the country’s most important scientific and information centers. Its collections include rich resources in law, politics, history, and social sciences, providing extensive opportunities for researchers.
Head of the Parliamentary Library, Szollas Peter, gave a detailed presentation on the library’s activities. It was noted that the library serves readers through both traditional collections and a wide electronic resource base and is equipped with modern information systems. Professor Karim Tahirov also toured the Parliament building, where he was introduced to its historically and culturally significant halls and architectural heritage.
During the visit, discussions were held on possible cooperation in the field of librarianship, including book exchange, digitization, sharing of scientific resources, and joint projects. Professor Karim Tahirov pointed out that there are currently no Azerbaijani materials in the Parliamentary Library and emphasized the importance of establishing book exchange in the near future.
At the end of the visit, Professor Karim Tahirov was presented with several publications, including “Parliamentary Library of Hungary,” “The Parliament Building in Budapest and Other 19th Century Parliament Buildings,” and “The Holy Crown of Hungary and Coronation Regalia.”
Professor Karim Tahirov expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and noted that such meetings contribute to the further development of scientific and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary. The visit concluded with commemorative photos and mutual expressions of intent for future cooperation.
