The virtual exhibition "March 10 - National Theater Day" was presented to users online in the National Library

10-03-2022

10th of March is Azerbaijan National Theater Day. The roots of the Azerbaijani national theater art are related to the people's activities, everyday life, celebration and wedding traditions, as well as worldview.

Although amateur theater performances were shown in different regions of Azerbaijan in the middle of the 19th century, the history of the creation of the national theater is related to the staging of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade's comedies " Lankaran Khan's vizier " and "Haji Kara" in Baku on March 10 and April 17, 1873. The Azerbaijani theater, which wrote the first pages of its history with these plays performed by the students at the initiative of Hasan Bey Zardabi, a teacher of the Baku Realni School, and his student Najaf Bey Vazirov, with the close participation of Asker Agha Adigozelov (Gorani), brought a new atmosphere to the cultural life of the country as a result of the intense activity of the prominent intellectuals of the time, and the national theater was the impetus for its creation.

According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated March 1, 2013 on the establishment of "National Theater Day", March 10 is celebrated as "National Theater Day" in our country.

On this occasion, the exhibition "March 10 - National Theater Day" prepared by the employees of the Azerbaijan National Library named after M.F. Akhundzade was presented to users in virtual mode. Photos, books and articles on the subject are displayed in the virtual exhibition.
