A ceremony was held at the Milli Kitabxana dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Professor Anar Isgandarov's birth.

On January 10, a ceremony was held at the National Library to mark the 70th birthday of the prominent historian and scholar, Professor Anar Isgandarov, who also serves as Chair of the Science and Education Committee of the Milli Meclis.

The event began with the presentation of a traditional and virtual exhibition titled “Prominent Historian and Scholar, Professor Anar Isgandarov.”

During the ceremony, Professor Karim Tahirov, Director of the National Library, expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev on behalf of the participants for awarding A. Isgandarov the “Shohrat” Order, one of Azerbaijan’s highest honors, recognizing his significant contributions to the country’s socio-political life.

Professor Tahirov highlighted A. Isgandarov’s extensive contributions as Chair of the Science and Education Committee, particularly his work in developing the normative and legal framework for the sector. He emphasized his role in the discussion and adoption of legislative initiatives proposed under the President’s guidance. The director also noted A. Isgandarov’s contributions to the development of historical science in Azerbaijan, his leadership at Baku State University (BDU) in training young historians, his mentorship of emerging scholars as Chair of the Expert Council on Historical Sciences at the Higher Attestation Commission (AAK), and his pioneering research on the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the March 1918 massacres.

Professor Baxtiyar Aliyev, member of the Milli Meclis, recalled working alongside A. Isgandarov at BDU for more than 50 years. He spoke about his wide-ranging academic work, tireless dedication to nurturing young historians, and his personal qualities as a humble, talented scholar, colleague, and friend.

Deputies Elchin Mirzabeyli, Samir Veliyev, and Vasif Qafarov also shared their reflections on collaborating with A. Isgandarov. They emphasized his active participation in legislative discussions, conducted in a rigorous environment with contributions from experts in science and education, and his multifaceted role as a scholar, mentor, and colleague.

Qamer Cavadli, Deputy Chair of the Qafqaz Muselmanlari Idarasi, conveyed congratulations from Sheykhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade and highlighted A. Isgandarov’s tireless contributions as a member of the Elmi-Dini Shura.

Other speakers included Ibrahim Zeynalov, Dean of the Faculty of History at BDU; Shikar Qasimov, member of the Expert Council on Historical Sciences at AAK; Dilqem Ismayilov, Doctor of Philosophy; Farhaq Guliyev, Director of the Institute of Ethnography at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (AMEA); Yegane Ismayilova, Doctor of Philology; Firdovsiyye Ahmedova, PhD in History; Asadulla Jafarov, Head of the Stone Age Archaeology Department at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology (AMEA); and others. They all highlighted A. Isgandarov’s wide-ranging scholarly achievements and contributions.

At the conclusion of the event, A. Isgandarov expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for recognizing his contributions with one of Azerbaijan’s highest honors. He also thanked the leadership of the National Library, the speakers, and all participants for their role in organizing and attending the ceremony.
