On April 16, marking the 10th anniversary of the glorious April battles—one of the most brilliant victories in the history of the Azerbaijani Army—the National Library presented to users a traditional book exhibition and electronic projects dedicated to this significant event.

With the aim of bringing the historical importance of the April battles to public attention, strengthening patriotic spirit among the younger generation, and honoring the memory of our martyrs, the National Library has presented an electronic information database titled “April Battles,” a virtual exhibition titled “April Battles – The Beginning of a Great Victory,” and a large traditional book exhibition titled “April Battles or the Four-Day War.”

The electronic database (https://anl.az/el/emb/aprel_doyusleri/index.html) provides systematically organized full-text resources in sections such as “Official Documents,” “The Beginning of a Glorious Victory,” “April Martyrs,” “Books,” “Articles,” “Memory of the April Battles,” “Photo Gallery,” and “Video Gallery.”

The virtual exhibition (https://anl.az/el/vsb/Aprel_doyusleri/index.htm) features the liberation of strategic heights such as Lalatapa and Talish heights, the heroism of the fighters of Lalatapa, press articles about the April battles as the beginning of the Great Victory, literature in Azerbaijani and other languages, as well as photographs.

The traditional book exhibition presents literature in Azerbaijani and foreign languages, press materials, and photographs reflecting the victories achieved during the April 2016 battles, the historical triumph of the Azerbaijani army, the far-sighted military and political strategy of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the legendary heroism of Azerbaijani soldiers, and the combat path of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of our lands.

At the beginning of April 2016, Azerbaijani frontline positions and civilian settlements were subjected to intensive artillery fire by Armenian armed forces, and Azerbaijani army units counterattacked to prevent provocations.

The four-day war, known in history as the April battles, saw the heroic soldiers, sergeants, and officers of Azerbaijan inflict heavy losses on the aggressor Armenian forces and liberate more than 2,000 hectares of territory, including heights around Talish village in Tartar, Lalatapa height and Jojug Marjanli in Jabrayil, as well as positions in Gulustan village of Goranboy and Madagiz village of Tartar.

The April battles demonstrated the readiness of the Azerbaijani army, the bravery of its soldiers, and the far-sighted strategic vision of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, paving the way for the Great Victory. Ultimately, in the 44-day Patriotic War, the victorious Azerbaijani Army, under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, ended 30 years of occupation and restored the territorial integrity of the country.
