March 31 is an unforgettable day in the history of Azerbaijan.

March Genocide or March İncidents — between March 30 and April 3, 1918, the Baku Soviet in the city of Baku and in various regions of the Baku governorate, as well as in Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Hajigabul, Salyan, Zangezur, Karabakh, Nakhchivan and other areas and massacre of Dashnak Armenian armed groups against Azerbaijanis.

During the massacre, which lasted for three days, the Armenian armed forces, with the help of the Bolsheviks, made sudden raids on the neighborhoods where Azerbaijanis lived and killed the population, from children to adults. The fact that young women were nailed alive to the wall, and the burning of the city hospital where two thousand people were trying to take refuge from the Armenian attack are also among these terrible facts.

According to official sources, as a result of the genocide, about 12,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and tens of thousands of people went missing.

The director of the National Library, prof. Karim Tahirov opened the event and noted that March 31 is marked as Genocide Day of Azerbaijanis by the Order of the great leader Heydar Aliyev dated March 26, 1998. He emphasized that Armenian nationalists carried out ethnic cleansing and genocides against our compatriots in various stages of history in order to realize their mythical ideas. More than 30,000 Azerbaijanis from different regions of Azerbaijan were killed and 10,000 people were expelled from their lands during the massacres committed by the Dashnak-Bolshevik armed groups with particular cruelty. He added that today we should write more books about the March 31 genocide, translate them into different languages ​​and widely publicize the troubles and tragedies inflicted on Azerbaijanis by the Armenian Dashnaks.

During the event, the memory of the people killed during the March 31 genocide was commemorated with a minute of silence.
