A virtual exhibition called "People's poet Mammad Araz" was presented to users in the National Library

October 14 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of the national poet Mammad Araz.

Mammad Araz was born on October 14, 1933 in Nursu village of Shahbuz district. After graduating from secondary school, he studied at the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute. During his student years, he actively participated in the literature club led by the writer Ismayil Shikhli at the institute. The popular poem " Yanın, işıqlarım" was published in 1952. Mammad Araz, who finished his higher education in 1954, started his career as a teacher in the secondary school in his native village, then moved to Baku and worked as a commissioner in the General Press Department under the Council of Ministers of Azerbaijan. In 1959-1961, he attended the Higher Literature courses at the Union of Writers in Moscow. Then he became the responsible secretary of "Ulduz" magazine, deputy editor-in-chief of "Literature and Art" newspaper, Azerbaijan State Publishing House. From 1974 until the end of his life, he was the editor-in-chief of " Azərbaycan Təbiəti" magazine. He headed the poetry section of the Union of Writers for a long time. For his services, he was awarded the Order of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1995) and Honorary Decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan. Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev National Prize laureate (1992). "Mammad Araz" award was established in his name (since 1993). He died on December 1, 2004 in Baku and was buried in the Alley of Honor.

On the occasion of the anniversary, the staff of the National Library prepared a virtual exhibition called "People's poet Mammad Araz".
