Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding composer of Azerbaijan, People's Artist Suleyman Alasgarov. He was born on February 22, 1924 in Shusha. His passion for music led him to the Azerbaijan State Conservatory.

The composer was admitted to the Union of Composers in 1943 with the guarantee of U. Hajibeyli. While studying in the 3rd year, he composed "Bayram Overture" for symphony orchestra, "Concerto" for cello, piano and symphony orchestra, and finally "Vatan" symphony, which is a diploma work.

The operetta genre occupies a central place in Suleyman Alasgarov's creativity. "Məhəbbət gülü (Flower of Love)", "Ulduz (Star)", "Özümüz bilərik (We Can Do İt)", " Olmadı elə, oldu belə  (It Didn't Happen as We Wanted)  ", " Milyonçunun dilənçi oğlu  (Millionaire's Beggar Son)", " Hardasan ay subaylıq (Where Are You Unmarriedness) ", etc. operettas are performed on the stage of the Azerbaijan Musical Comedy Theater even today. His operas "Bahadir and Sona", "Solğun Çiçəklər (Pale flowers)", several cantatas - "Bahar Təranələri (Spring Songs)", "Bir bayraq altında (Under one flag)"; "Gənclik (Youth)" and "Vatan" symphonies, "Bayati-Shiraz" symphonic mugam, "Chingiz İldırım" vocal symphonic poem, symphonic poem and suites to "Hezi Aslanov's memory", 3 string concerts, up to 200 songs and romances (22 without words) song) and other works are among the pearls of Azerbaijani music.
