On April 9, the leadership of the Training and Professional Development Center for Fundamentals of State Language Work under the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited the National Library. The guests were received by the Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan, Professor Karim Tahirov.
Welcoming the guests, the director spoke about the deep historical roots of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, emphasizing the close ties between the two peoples based on common culture, belonging to the same language family, shared religious values, and national traditions. He noted that in recent years relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have further deepened both bilaterally and within multilateral platforms.
The director also highlighted the active development of relations within the Organization of Turkic States and drew attention to the First Turkological Congress held in Baku in 1926 with the participation of representatives of the Uzbek people. He emphasized that by decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the 100th anniversary of the Congress is being celebrated this year as a tribute to Turkic unity, culture, and literature, and noted that in June major events are planned in Baku with the participation of the entire Turkic world.
Professor Tahirov also spoke about ongoing cooperation between the National Library of Azerbaijan and the National Library of Uzbekistan, informing guests about the permanent section of Uzbek literature in the International Cooperation Hall, which is regularly updated. He noted that the Uzbek literature section was established in 2019, while the Azerbaijan literature corner in the National Library of Uzbekistan was created in 2024 during the Azerbaijan Culture Days held in Tashkent.
During the meeting, Professor Inomjon Azimov, Doctor of Philology and head of the Center, spoke about the rich and long historical development of literary and cultural relations between the Azerbaijani and Uzbek peoples, stressing the importance of mutual cooperation for further development of these ties. He also expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and presented his book on the First Turkological Congress to the director as a gift.
Later, the guests familiarized themselves with the National Library and presented new books to the “Uzbek Literature Section” in the International Cooperation Hall.
At the end of the visit, Director Professor Karim Tahirov presented the guests with the photo album “National Library of Azerbaijan” and national souvenirs.
