A book exhibition titled “Professor Nushaba Arasli” has been presented to users at the National Library.

On March 18, 2026, a book exhibition titled “Professor Nushaba Arasli” was presented to users at the National Library on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the birth of corresponding member of ANAS, prominent literary scholar, and well-known researcher in Nizami studies, Professor Nushaba Arasli.

The exhibition features the scholar’s works and literature reflecting her life, scientific, pedagogical, and public activities.

Nushaba Arasli was born on March 25, 1941, in Baku. She received her early education between 1947 and 1957, and graduated with honors from the Faculty of Oriental Studies (Persian language specialty) of Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University) in 1957–1962.

She began her scientific career as a junior researcher at the Manuscripts Fund of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences (now ANAS). In 1966, she entered the postgraduate program of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature. She defended her кандидат dissertation in 1969 on “Arif Ardabili and his poem ‘Farhadname’,” and her doctoral dissertation in 1988 on “Nizami and Turkish Literature,” earning the degree of Doctor of Philology.

Since 1969, she has worked at the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS in various positions, including junior, senior, and leading researcher in departments such as “Ancient and Medieval Azerbaijani Literature,” “Nizami Studies,” and “Ancient Azerbaijani Literature.” Since 2014, she has headed the Nizami Studies department.

Professor Nushaba Arasli has devoted many years to the study of Azerbaijani literature, especially the works of Nizami Ganjavi, making significant contributions to literary scholarship in Azerbaijan.

Her main research areas include theoretical and methodological issues of ancient and medieval Azerbaijani literature, intercultural relations and typology between classical Eastern literatures, the epic “Kitabi-Dede Gorgud,” and the literary heritage of poets such as Khagani, Arif Ardabili, Nizami, Nasimi, Shah Ismail Khatai, and Fuzuli.

In recognition of her contributions to science, she was awarded the “Shohrat” Order in 2008 by the decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. In 2010, she was awarded the academic title of professor, and in 2017 she was elected corresponding member of ANAS.
