According to the decree signed by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on December 22, 2025, the year 2026 has been declared the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture”

This decree aims to preserve Azerbaijan’s centuries-old traditions in urban planning and architectural culture, as well as to promote and expand the implementation of progressive approaches that respond to new challenges in the country

On January 9, 2026, at the Azerbaijan National Library, a permanent book corner and a virtual exhibition titled “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” were presented to users. The initiative aims to protect national values in urban planning and architecture, implement modern approaches, and promote sustainable development

The exhibitions feature official documents, literature in Azerbaijani and other languages, and articles from periodicals on topics such as the development of Azerbaijani architecture from ancient times to the present, urban planning culture, Azerbaijani cities, numerous architectural monuments across the country, unique forms and layouts of traditional housing, construction and engineering techniques, decorative designs reflecting the values of national architectural culture, elements used in Azerbaijani national architecture, prominent Azerbaijani architects and their works, reconstruction and development processes in cities liberated from occupation, and more
