On March 17, 2026, at the National Library, a book exhibition titled “Poet-prose writer Seyran Sakhavat” was presented to users on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the birth of writer, poet, prose writer, playwright, publicist, translator, Seyran Sakhavat.
The exhibition features Seyran Sakhavat’s poems, novels, novellas, short stories, plays, translations, as well as books for which he wrote forewords or served as editor. It also includes Azerbaijani and Russian-language literature reflecting his life and creative work, along with press materials.
Seyran Asgar oghlu Khanlarov (Seyran Sakhavat) was born on March 23, 1946, in the village of Yukhary Yaghlivend in the Fuzuli district. After completing secondary school, he studied at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University) from 1964 to 1970.
He began his literary career in the early 1960s, and his first poem “Two Desires” was published in 1962 in the newspaper Qizil Araz. His first poetry collection “Islands” was published in 1970.
He is the author of books such as “My Planet,” “Everyone Thought…,” “Stone Houses,” “Tight Shirt,” “Golden Basin,” “Obituary,” “Oak Seed,” “Excuse,” “The Jewish Alphabet,” and “Chase.”
His works often focus on themes such as love for humanity and the homeland, the Karabakh war, the lives of refugees, and human destinies. His works have been translated into several foreign languages.
His plays have been staged in various theatres, including “Golden Basin” (1988, Academic Drama Theatre), “Bust” (1989, Lankaran Drama Theatre), and “The World Left Beyond the Doors” (1990, Fuzuli Drama Theatre).
His novel “Obituary” was awarded the “Best Novel of the Year” prize named after Yusif Samadoglu by the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan in 2002.
