The United Nations General Assembly, by adopting a resolution on December 18, 2013, declared July 30 as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about human trafficking and to draw the attention of the international community to the problems faced by victims.
Forced labor, debt bondage, child labor exploitation, domestic servitude, begging, forced involvement in armed groups, and trafficking for organ transplantation are all different forms of the same serious crime. Human trafficking is a global issue affecting many countries, and its victims can be men, women, and children.
It is one of the most pressing problems of the modern world. In Azerbaijan, effective measures are being implemented to combat this social issue, along with extensive public awareness campaigns.
To ensure the continuity of anti-trafficking efforts, improve the legal and institutional framework, enhance inter-agency cooperation, and fulfill international obligations, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev regularly approves the “National Action Plan on Combating Human Trafficking in the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
To raise public awareness, the National Library has presented an online virtual exhibition titled “July 30 – World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.”
The exhibition includes official documents, photographs, reports from parliamentary committee meetings, materials on Azerbaijan’s experience in combating human trafficking, protection of victims by the state, relevant legal acts, books, and press materials.
