A virtual exhibition called " Karabakh Monuments" was presented to users online in the National Library

22-04-2022

Nagorno-Karabakh and Aran Karabakh is the cradle of the oldest cultures of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Azykh cave near the city of Fuzuli and the Taglar cave, 3 km away from it, are among our ancient monuments that are important not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the whole world. The fragment of the jaw of the Azykh man found in the Azykh cave is one of the oldest findings in the world.

The territory of Karabakh is the residence of the Kur-Araz and Khojaly-Gadabey cultures, which existed and replaced each other in the Bronze and Iron Ages, the creators of the Guruchay culture of the Paleolithic period. The ancient stone monuments discovered in the mountainous and plain parts of Karabakh - dolmens in Khojaly, cromlechs in Khankendi, as well as stone box graves from the ancient period discovered in different parts of Karabakh - are material cultural signs that reflect the ideology and spiritual thought of that time.

Karabakh monuments are not only material and cultural, but also the "archive" and pages of our spiritual history. Regarding the current fate of the Karabakh monuments, the destructive activity, conflict and war caused by Armenia at the end of the 20th century endangered the fate of the material cultural monuments in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. On the eve of the war, it was not even possible to record the monuments. Ongoing vandalism has destroyed many of the historical monuments that Azerbaijan has preserved for centuries. By using equipment, they destroyed the famous Khojaly cemetery, which is a symbol of the historical memory of our great ancestors. Khojaly mounds, which were the ancient cradle of the famous Khojaly-Gadabay culture, were wiped out. In Shusha, they pierced the statues of Azerbaijani thinkers with automatic bullets. Azykh cave, one of the cradles of the great ancestors of mankind, turned into a military ammunition storehouse of Armenians.

The 44-day victory march of the glorious Azerbaijan Army not only freed our native Karabakh, but also saved our historical and cultural heritage from Armenian vandals. Our victorious army gave a lesson to those who tried to blacken, delete, falsify, and destroy our history pages. Mr. President Ilham Aliyev said during his first visit to the Karabakh region that we will turn the entire Karabakh region into one of the most beautiful regions of Azerbaijan. Life will revive here, all our regions will be restored, and our citizens will live and create in their native homes.

Mr. President, in order to restore the historical appearance of the city of Shusha, to restore its former glory and to return to its traditional full cultural life, as well as to promote Azerbaijan's centuries-old rich culture, architectural and urban planning art in the international world, the declaration of "Shusha city as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan" as well as 2022 as "Year of Shusha" is an indicator of all these works.

In order to promote the monuments of Karabakh, a virtual exhibition called " Karabakh Monuments" was prepared by the staff of the National Library. In the virtual exhibition, ancient settlements of the Karabakh region, maps, photos, historical-architectural monuments and information about them are displayed.
