Azerbaijan National Library took part in the 2nd international conference on the theme of “Book and Reading in the Digital Era” held in the Kyrgyz Republic. The event is jointly organized with the support of the CIS Humanitarian Action Fund, Interregional Center for Library Cooperation, the Russian Committee of “Information for All” Programme of UNESCO, Alykul Osmonov National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Association of Public Libraries of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Moderators of the conference were Rinat Bakeyev, Head of the Department for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Sergei Bakeikin, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Committee of the UNESCO Program “Information for Everyone”, Executive Director of the Interregional Center for Library Cooperation. Opening the international conference, Deputy Chair of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Jildiz Bakashova welcomed the guests and wished them success.
The conference was also attended by Kairat Imanaliyev, Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic; Evgeny Kuzmin, Chairman of the Russian Committee of “Information for All” Programme of UNESCO, President of the Interregional Center for Library Cooperation; Umida Teshabaeva, Director of the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan; Prof. Roman Motulsky, Director of the Belarus National Library and President of the Library Assembly of Eurasia; Prof. Umutkan Munalbaeva, Director General of the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Djumakhon Faizalizoda, Director of the National Library of Tajikistan, and others.
Adiba Ismayilova, Deputy Director for Library-information Service and International Relations of Azerbaijan National Library, made a speech on “Azerbaijan National Library: the pandemic period and electronic-information services”. She noted that Azerbaijan National Library prepared numerous electronic databases, virtual exhibitions and electronic publications during the pandemic. “The number of virtual readers increased during this period and reached 3 million” she added.
Then, emphasizing that this year was declared the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" in our country on the occasion of the 880th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi, she spoke about the works done by the Azerbaijan National Library in this direction.
Deputy Director Adiba Ismayilova donated “Chingiz Aitmatov. Selected Works” book (I-III volumes) and “Chingiz Aitamtov phenomenon and Azerbaijan” book by Mehman Hasanli to the National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The conference will last until June 23.
