21-02-2022

30 years have passed since the Khojaly genocide, one of the most terrible pages in the history of Azerbaijan.

On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces attacked the city of Khojaly with the participation of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet army located in Khankendi, grossly violating the norms and principles of international law, and killed the civilian population with unprecedented cruelty.

During the Khojaly genocide, 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly people, were killed with unimaginable brutality just because they were Azerbaijanis, 487 civilians were seriously injured, and 1,275 people were taken hostage.

The Khojaly massacre was part of the planned ethnic cleansing and aggression policy carried out by Armenia against Azerbaijan for many years. The political and military leadership of Armenia at that time is responsible for the genocide.

In accordance with the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Action Plan of the Ministry of Culture on the thirtieth anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, a virtual exhibition called "Khojaly genocide - 30" was prepared by the staff of the National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundzade. In the virtual exhibition, books and periodical press materials and photographs depicting the Khojaly tragedy are displayed.
