The Azerbaijani delegation visited the British National Library

On March 13, the members of the Azerbaijani delegation, which participated in the International Book Fair held in London, visited the British National Library and met with the general director of the library, Roly Keating.

He talked with Karim Tahirov about his meeting at the annual meeting of CENL in Paris last June and the unforgettable days he spent in Baku during his participation in the 90th anniversary of the National Library of Azerbaijan in 2013, the hospitality of the Azerbaijani people, the beauty of Baku, and samples of our national cuisine. He said he was pleased to see prof. Karim Tahirov and the representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Prof. Karim Tahirov thanked for the meeting. He added that based on the high level of mutual relations existing between our countries, he emphasized the importance of expanding mutual cooperation between National Libraries. He presented his proposals to the director of the British National Library in order to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the National Libraries of Azerbaijan and Great Britain. At the same time, Karim Tahirov pointed out that the valuable manuscripts of prominent Azerbaijani poets N. Ganjavi, M. Fuzuli, X. Shirvani, Khatai, M. Hadi and other classics are stored in the British National Library, and asked for support for their research and providing electronic copies to the National Library of Azerbaijan.

Speaking, Elchin Mustafayev, adviser to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, thanked the British National Library and said that a large international cultural event - "VI Baku International Intercultural Dialogue Forum" will be held in Baku in early May this year and invited the library staff to that event on behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Culture.

Akif Marifli, head of the Book Industry Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, thanked the respected director Roly Keating and said that they would be glad to see him at the "International Forum" to be held in Baku in May. Taking into account that the 530th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Mohammad Fuzuli will be celebrated in 2024, he asked to support the transfer of the electronic version of the great poet's manuscripts stored in the British National Library to the National Library of Azerbaijan.

At the end of the meeting, the delegation got acquainted with the British National Library.
